Jerry L. Putman, 80, of Rockford, Ohio, passed away Friday night, March 27, 2020 at Lima Memorial Hospital, where he was a patient. 


He was born October 9, 1939, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of Max E. and Myrtle V. “Peggy” (Baumgardner) Putman, both who have preceded in death. 


Jerry was a graduate of the Class of 1957, Rockford High School in Rockford, Ohio.  On May 27, 1961 he married Kay McPherson, and she survives at home in Rockford.  Jerry had served in the United States Army and was a life-long farmer.


He loved his family, fishing with his kids and grandkids, taking the long drive up to Canada to catch some Walleye. He loved sitting on the porch during the warm sunny days and watching his great grandkids play in the yard. He loved being on the tractor and watching the crops mature for harvesting.  He lived most of his life in the Rockford area, after he and Kay moved back from Payne, Ohio.  Jerry was a member of the Rockford Belle Community Church in Rockford, and enjoyed the time there with his friends. 


Together, he and Kay had two children:  Kim E. (Dr. Brian) Linder of Richmond, Texas and Chris D. (Rose) Putman of Payne, Ohio.  Surviving in addition to his children are 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.  Two siblings also survive:  Terrell Putman of New Knoxville, Ohio, and Gary A. (Jill) Putman of Van Wert, Ohio. 


Deceased in addition to his parents is one brother, Larry D. Putman. 


Because of national health concerns, Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home and the Putman family are following directives outlined by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, limiting attendance to the visitation and funeral service to immediate family only.

Gerald Allen Slane, 83, of Ohio City, Ohio, passed away early Friday morning, March 27, 2020, at Vancrest Nursing Home in Van Wert, Ohio. 


He was born on February 8, 1937, in Van Wert, Ohio, the son of Elvin and Edna Belle (Uhrich) Slane. 


Gerald served 6 years in the United States Army National Guard.  He was a farmer and had worked at the former Continental Can in Van Wert, until his retirement. He enjoyed working with wood and building birdhouses. He had lived his entire life in the Van Wert County area and had attended St. Paul United Church of Christ, Rockford.

Surviving is a sister, Helen (Jerry) Rolsten of Mendon, Ohio, four nieces and nephews:  Gale (Ruth) Matthews, Wayne (Deb) Matthews, Joyce (Walt) Theisen, and Ava (Gregg) Scheidt.  

Deceased is his fiancé, Darlene Gibbons, who preceded on December 16, 2008, and a sister Marcile Matthews.

Because of national health concerns, outlined by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, limiting attendance at funeral homes to immediate family only, the family has decided not to hold services for Gerald, but will have a Celebration of Life at a later date.


Details will appear on our website when a time for the Celebration of Life have been determined.  


Burial for Gerald will take place at St. Paul United Church of Christ Cemetery, Rockford.
