SPRINGER

Jacqualyn L. “Jackie” Springer, age 82, of Celina, Ohio passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at her home with complications of her rare myelosdysplastic syndrome that had evolved into acute myeloid leukemia. Jackie was born on June 24, 1937 in Celina.  She married Luke G. Springer on June 4, 1955, and he survives at their residence.
 

She is also survived by her children, Tim Springer, Celina and Melanie (Randy) Ewing, McComb, Ohio; five grandchildren, Erika (Kevin) Draiss, Celina; Doug (Katrina) Ewing, Bowling Green, Ohio; Brandon (Nicole) Ewing, Findlay, Ohio; Ashley (Jonathan) Reist, Dublin, Ohio;  and Kayla Boysell, Wapakoneta; eight great-grandchildren, Danica, Rylan and Emilia Draiss; Kipp, Kassidy and Kiersten Ewing of Findlay; Stella Reist, and Oliver Ewing of Bowling Green.
 

Jackie is also survived by sister-in-law, Ann (Dick) Brandts, Cincinnati; brother-in-law, Mark (Marlene) Springer, Celina; nieces, Cheryl Adams (Joe) Hutchison of Marshall MI and Jill Weber (Hirofumi) Tanaka, Austin, Texas;  and nephews, Jeff (Susie) Brandts of Sandusky, Terry & Jerry Wurster of Celina, Curt (Sue) Adams of Kettering, Randy (Becky) Adams of Pioneer, Mark (Cindee) Brandts of Hilliard, Dave (Laura) Brandts of Cincinnati, Dan (Jessica) Springer of Wolcottville IN, Scott (Sherri) Springer of Cincinnati, Jeff Springer of Austin TX , Lyndi Springer (Michael) Woods of Perrysburg and many great-nieces and nephews.
 

She was also followed in death the same day by a great-granddaughter, Scarlett Reist on January 25, 2020.  Her father and stepmother, Lloyd (Marie) Weber are deceased and is her mother, Margaret King Carpenter. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bob "Chico" (Barb) Weber, her sister-in-law Jane (Chuck) Adams, and sister in law Joy (John) Wurster.
 

Jackie was a 1955 graduate of Celina Senior High School and went on to further her education at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.  She also received her Master’s degree from Wright State University in Dayton.
 

She had previously worked at General Telephone and retired as a dedicated teacher for Celina City Schools after 30 years of service. She worked days, some nights and many weekends helping students and former students to write term papers and do college work.  Jackie was a member of Iota Gamma teaching sorority. She also taught as an adjunct English faculty at Wright State Lake Campus. Jackie was a member of Grace Missionary Church in Celina, where she taught Sunday school for about 20 years. She also attended South Lake Wales Church of God in Lake Wales, Florida, where she and Luke lived during the winter months after retirement.
 

She was very devoted to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and loved serving her family, students and anyone who needed help.  She volunteered for many years at Celina High School cross country and track meets, Lake Wales Care Center and at her churches.  She also helped launch the Celina High School trips to Stratford, Ontario for the Shakespeare Festival.

 

She enjoyed teaching, reading, traveling, Swedish weaving, crossword puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In her extremely, unselfish ways, Jackie has chosen to donate her body to science.

 

Due to restrictions of the Covid-19 virus we will be following the guidelines set by the Ohio Governor Mike DeWine’s office.

 

Family and friends gathering will take place from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm on Sunday June 7, 2020 at Cisco Funeral Homes in Celina; a memorial service to honor Jackie’s life will follow with Rev. Bruce Head officiating.
 

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or Cleveland Clinic Cancer Patient Support Services.
