OBERLITNER
Gene Oberlitner, age 83, of rural Celina, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019, at his residence.

 

He was born August 23, 1935, in Deshler, Ohio, to the late Edwin & Florence ( Miller ) Oberlitner.

 

Gene married Jane Harner on February 8, 1958, and she survives, along with their children: Todd ( Nancy ) Oberlitner of Mendon, Chris ( Diane ) Oberlitner of Shelby Township, Michigan, and Lori Oberlitner of Oxford, Ohio; 3 grandchildren: Nicole Welling, Rachel Neely and Ralph Oberlitner; 5 great grandchildren: Gabriel, Eric, & Leah Welling, Laci Neely, and Paisley Oberlitner; and siblings: John ( Faye ) Oberlitner of Polson, Montana,  Ruth ( Dick ) Schwartz of Fort Wayne, and Clarence ( Joan ) Oberlitner of Ohio City.

    

Preceding him in death were an infant daughter, Kim, a brother, Donald, and a brother & sister-in-law, Carl & Marilyn Harner. 

 

Gene was a 1953 graduate of York Township High School in Van Wert County.  He served in Germany from 1958-59,  as a Tank Specialist with the U.S. Army. 

 

A diesel mechanic, Gene had worked at Cummins Diesel in Fort Wayne, Western Ohio Freightliner in Lima, and retired from Case Leasing in Celina.

 

Gene was a very active member of Mt. Tabor Church of God, Celina.  Over the years he served the churchas a Trustee, Elder, and Sunday School Teacher.

 

He enjoyed shooting sports, and loved riding motorcycles. Gene had his pilot's license, and loved flying airplanes.

 

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 21, at Mt. Tabor Church of God, Celina, with Pastors Darwin Dunten and Richard Van Horn, officiating. 

 

Burial will follow at North Grove Cemetery, Celina, with graveside Military Rites to be conducted by Celina American Legion Post #210 and VFW Post # 5713. 

 

Calling Hours are 2:00 - 6:00 p.m., Sunday, January 20, at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Celina, and an hour prior to time of services on Monday, at the church.                                          

 

Memorial Contributions may be made to Mt. Tabor Church.
