HERTEL

 

Ronald E. “Doc” Hertel, age 74, of Celina, Ohio, passed away at The James Cancer Center at OSU, Columbus, Ohio on December 30, 2019 at 9:55 pm.  He was born March 9, 1945 in Van Wert, Ohio to the late Gale and Audrey (Saam) Hertel.  He married Jan (Bertke) Hertel on July 25, 1985 and she survives at the residence.

 

Other survivors include his children, Ryan (Brittany Teodorski) Hertel, Portland, Oregon, Lisa (Jeff) Vondrell, Celina and Todd (Grace Rea) Hertel, Delaware, Ohio; a brother, Larry (JeAnne) Hertel, Fort Myers, Florida; two nieces, Katie and Marie; and four grandchildren, Evan, Owen, Mason and Ellie. 

 

Also preceded in death by a sister, Janice (Jerry) Hoelscher. 

 

Ron was a 1963 graduate of Rockford High School and went on to further his education at Manchester College where he received a Bachelor’s degree in education.  He also received his Master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin Superior and his PhD degree from Walden University.   

 

He worked his entire life in education teaching at Marion Local Schools for 40 years and retiring as a professor at Wright State Lake Campus in Celina, where he specialized in teaching science and mathematics.   

 

He was a member of Mount Tabor Church of God in Celina, Celina VFW Post #5713, Celina American Legion Post #210, Celina Moose Lodge #1473, Celina Eagles Post #1291, NRA and the NEA.

 

Ron enjoyed trapping, farming, playing cards, being outdoors, and spending time with his family.

 

Visitation hours will be from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Friday, January 3, 2020, at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina.

 

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina, with Pastor Darwin Dunten, officiating; where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  

 

Burial will follow at North Grove Cemetery in Celina.

 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
